A month after her unexpected return to Milliways, Kate still half-expects every door she opens to reveal the bar.
(And Bill — maybe, just maybe, he's there again, too.)
But this morning, amid the loose-limbed rush of post-workout endorphins and the anticipation of a much-needed shower, she's caught entirely off-guard when she doesn't enter her two-room hotel suite.
"Oh," she breathes to herself, and swipes her sweat-slick nape with the small orange towel in her right fist as she glances around the room.
