As soon as Kate's eyes open in the early morning light, she automatically rolls over and reaches out a hand.

The forehead beneath her touch is almost cool. No longer sweaty or feverish or clammy. Back to normal.

Finally.

She stifles a sigh of relief and props herself on one elbow, smiling down at Boo.

"I think you're really back to a hundred percent, half-pint."

Boo is a toddler, which means that she is up before whoever she is currently in the care of. Toddlers are very talented in this respect.

She's playing with the teddy Bar gave her a few days ago, babbling to it happily. She grins at Kate when she's addressed.

"Ikit!" She shows her the teddy. It doesn't look any different than it did when she went to sleep but Boo feels the need to show it to her anyway.

Yay toddlers?

Talented is the watchword; Boo's been awake before Kate every morning except one so far, and Kate's something of an early riser.

"I see," she half-yawns, still smiling. It's a great bear, if a little blurry at the moment.

Boo grins and snuggles close to Kate before continuing her play.

The bear uses a scary voice! OOO SCARY.

Kate chuckles but makes an appropriately wide-eyed, open-mouthed Face of Alarm before ducking beneath the comforter.

Clearly, she's terrified.

Boo giggles. The bear chases her now, still making scary voice! OH NOES IT SHALL EAT HER WITH THE SCARY VOICE!

Kate flails in protest beneath the covers.

"Boo, there's a bear! Help!"

Because, when in doubt, depend on a two-year-old for rescue from imminent mortal peril.

Wise Kate is wise!

Boo sits up on her knees and makes a Heroic! face.

With her empty hand she pushes the bear (in her other hand) away from Kate and pulls the covers back with an air of TRIUMPH!

She babbles her witty heroic banter, takes Kate's hand and tugs her away from the EVIL BEAR OF SCARINESS!

Laughing, Kate sits up.

"My hero," she grins. "Thank you."

She ruffles Boo's bangs.

"Hungry, sweetheart? Ready for breakfast?"

Boo grins at Kate and climbs down off the bed. She babbles animatedly and tugs at Kate's hand. There must be going other placesness!

"I'm up, I'm up."

And she is. Now.

"But we're both still in pajamas, silly. And we have to brush our teeth."

Just a couple of Necessary Tasks before heading down to the main bar.

Oh, and can't forget the bed-head. Both Kate and Boo have spectacular cases of it at the moment. Said cases must be remedied.

Boo makes a sad face. She doesn't care about the pajamas or teeth brushing! There should be lots of playing! And waffles with whipped creme! She like whipped creme.

Kate, taking the high (very mature) road, sticks out her tongue at the sad face as she pads into the bathroom and picks up the toothpaste.

Because dental hygiene is important. And Boo should form good habits early.

She follows behind Kate and pats her on the leg.

Kate's not-quite-but-kind-of-a-plan is working!

After squeezing out the paste, she grins down at Boo and lifts the toddler, and sets her beside the sink. Picks up her own toothbrush, then Boo's, and offers Boo the small, pink one as she brushes with her other hand.

Boo takes the toothbrush, sticks it in her mouth and sort of twirls it around. She's not quite clear on all of the details, but she does understand that the brushy part is supposed to touch the teeth and it's supposed to move around a bunch.

So as far as she's concerned, she's doing an excellent job.

Kate headtilts a little, then gives Boo a big, foamy grin — all the better to demonstrate proper brushing technique.

Boo giggles and decides that she's done brushing! She takes the toothbrush outta her mouth and offers it to Kate.

She sort of resembles a rabid dog.

Kate stifles a laugh and takes Boo's toothbrush so she can duck it beneath the faucet, then cleans her own. After she rinses her mouth, she looks over at Boo.

"We'll try this again after breakfast," she smiles, shaking her head slightly. "C'mere, you've got a little something ... "

She points to Boo's mouth, then to the sink.

Boo looks where Kate pointed and then back up at Kate expectantly.

What?

Kate, in turn, looks at Boo. Then leans over the sink, cups a handful of water, and brings it to her mouth.

Swish. Spit. Ta-da!

C'mon, Boo. Give in to the peer pressure!

Boo's face lights up! She cups a handful of water in imitation of Kate.
